Peking Gourmet sits unassumingly in a Garden Grove strip mall but offers a steady stream of diners who clearly know their way around bold, authentic Chinese and Korean-inspired flavors. The atmosphere is straightforward and no-frills, more about the food than decor, catering mainly to locals looking for generous portions and familiar tastes midweek or weekend afternoons.

This spot works best for anyone craving hearty, richly flavored meals that don't scrimp on size. The lunch specials draw a steady crowd, especially those looking for well-executed classics like Mongolian Beef or Sweet and Sour Pork offered at approachable prices. Groups tend to favor ordering a range of dishes from the menu — from crispy pan-fried dumplings and black bean noodles dotted with fresh vegetables, to the spicier Kimchi and Jjampong noodle soups that bring a warming kick.

One thing that stands out is the texture and seasoning balance — the fried shrimp come out perfectly crispy, the cold dishes deliver a refreshing contrast, and soups like Hot and Sour or the house wonton are light but flavorful starters. It’s not a place to linger over ambiance, but the steady buzz of nearby business patrons and families makes it feel like a practical and welcoming neighborhood fixture.

The place sees its peak during lunch hours, when workers from nearby shops and local regulars gather for quick, satisfying meals often accompanied by classic drinks like Tsingtao or Soju. It’s ideal for those who appreciate straightforward service and dishes that feel thoughtfully prepared rather than rushed or overly commercialized.

If you’re popping in, keep in mind the restrooms have seen better days, but the core draw remains the food and the no-nonsense environment. For anyone nostalgic for the taste of home-style Chinese or Korean Chinese cuisine in Garden Grove, Peking Gourmet offers a consistently solid, flavor-forward experience.

portion was huge, dumplings were crispy on the outside and soft inside, battered shrimp was so crispy and delicious with the sauce, beef with the veggies was amazing quality, black bean noodles had fresh veggies as well, and the assorted veggie and meat plate was delicious 10/10 recommend!!

I was trying to find an old restaurant I used to visit for great Jjajangmyeon, and although this wasn’t the exact place I remembered, I was very satisfied. They served a small egg soup as a welcome dish — warm, light, and comforting on an empty stomach. During lunch time, I tried the stir-fried vegetables, which were fresh and perfectly seasoned without being too salty. I also liked that they offered small-size bowls of Jjajangmyeon — just right for a light meal. Everything tasted great, and I definitely recommend visiting this place!

I came with friends who were very familiar with the restaurant. Followed all their recommendations and everything was delicious and each dish had a unique flavor. It's as authentically Chinese/Korean flavors as I ever crave and it'll be a regular stop for me as often as I can. I can't wait to take my dad here for dinner because it has our favorite Sizzling Rice Soup the way we enjoyed it when I was growing up. pan fried dumplings- excellent, perfect oily crispy goodness and the filling was the best I've enjoyed in a long while sizzling rice soup- must have for comfort food walnut shrimp- generous portions all around- perfectly fried and candy glazed sweet and sour chicken- crispy goodness!! jjangmyeon (sp??) another crowd favorite!! fried rice- a favorite Mongolian beef- flavorful too Note to try their egg rolls next time so I can hopefully enjoy another favorite appetizer of mine. Service was very quick and helpful. They were so kind on our visit and attentive to clearing our plates. Despite some of the reviews (via Yelp) below, my first visit here went very well. We were celebrating two friends' birthdays and it was such a delicious and enjoyable get together. Love our friends’ recommendations!!

Portions and Prawns are huge. The kimchi is sweet. Mien is umami flavored with chew. Great value and flavor but bathrooms need a makeover. This is conveniently located in a strip mall next to automotive repair and maintenance shops. You can tell they are great value and taste when you see a bunch of business men and their constituents dinning with Tsingtao, Cast and Soju. Make sure you get the 3 flavor Chachiang Jiajang mien and not the regular which has no chunks of shrimp, scallops, squids, and crispy pork. We also added shrimp fried rice and fried meat dumplings. I want to come back to try the sweet and sour pork/chicken and jjambong.

The food is above average compared to other Korean style Chinese restaurants. Good spicy seafood noodle and black noodle. Quality of the ingredients are good and fresh. But what compelled me to write this review is the ownership seem to deeply care about customer satisfaction, and their service have always been consistently attentive and friendly (and not surprising that it is packed even during weekdays). I hope this restaurant continues to thrive and wish great success.

All the dishes are delicious. The stir‑fried seafood and vegetable medley and the braised meatball dish are both outstanding.
